Welcome!

The PFrEND lab is located in the Department of Psychological Science at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). It aims to advance research centered on understanding how complex social ecologies shape development during late childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood.

PFrEND Lab research is guided by a bioecological systems perspective and examines how the influence of and supports provided by peer groups, friends, parents, families, and educators work together—synergistically or antagonistically—to comprise an ecological system that shapes outcomes that are foundational to optimal biopsychosocial development. Main outcomes we explore in our research include academic motivation and engagement, resiliency, wellbeing, and prosocial behavior.

At the PFrEND lab, we aim to use rigorous methods of psychological science to produce evidence that can be used to promote healthy psychological, social, and academic development in our schools, colleges, universities, and communities. We hope that you will explore our lab, learn more about our ongoing research projects, and reach out to connect with us!
